Spring Charity Fashion show a great success
Thanet Lions & St. George’s School Leos Club held a very successful fashion show at the School on Tuesday, 28th April, 2015. Clothes were modelled by 4 brave ladies and 2 gentlemen from Thanet Lions Club, in addition to those provided by the shops themselves. Exhibitors were The Gallery Boutique, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Kerry’s Plus Size Boutique, Amelie Rose and Roman Originals – all from Thanet. There were also a number of stalls selling cosmetics, handbags, jewellery and fancy goods. Music was provided by our local DJ Horace the Hitman from Academy FM radio and the School Hospitality Group baked cakes and biscuits to sell. £800 was raised on the night with an additional £90 raised in a bucket collection towards the disaster in Nepal. Thank you so much everyone for attending.

2014 Boot Fairs
Thanet Lions Club were delighted to present a cheque for
£976.20 to Drapers Mills School, this being their share of the takings from our
Boot Fairs over the summer.
A huge ‘thank you’ to the stallholders and ‘shoppers ‘ that
came and supported our Boot Fairs throughout the season. The weather as
particular unkind to us in the spring and early summer but the school kindly
allowed us to run weekly Boot Fairs throughout September to ‘top up’ the takings. This money will provide a much needed boost to school funds.

On Friday 10th October 2014
Thanet Lions Club held their Sight Awareness Day at Westwood Cross.Lions Club International has
a key objective of helping to prevent blindness
through programmes of sight awareness, provision of medication and operations
to restore sight.
Lions were kindly supported
by the Kent Association of the Blind (KAB) and information leaflets from the
Paula Carr Trust, which deals with eyesight problems caused by diabetes.
The Mayor of Ramsgate
Councillor Patricia Moore, the deputy Mayor of Margate Councillor Ella
Lodge-Pritchard, the Deputy Chairman of Thanet District Council Harry Scobie
and Laura Sandys MP, along with their consorts, attended and showed great
interest in both Lions’ activities and our Sight Awareness event.
Some of our guests went ‘shopping’ under
blindfold conditions, to experience the difficulties the visually impaired have
when using white canes in crowded places with obstacles. Others eagerly donned visually distorted
spectacles (could only see peripheral vision) experiencing an escalator and
steps.
President Cathy Griggs said
that the event would be considered extremely successful if only one person had
gone on to have their eyes tested as a result.
Our thanks to all our dignitaries
who entered into the spirit of the event and allowed Lions to guide them around
a very busy thoroughfare.
To Amanda and Jenny from the
KAB for their training and support and to Westwood Cross Operations team for
allowing us to hold this event and their help with setting up.
